There have been genuine questions about where Liverpool would have been in the league table this season if Alisson Becker hadn’t been at the top of his game. Their current position (sixth) isn’t very attractive by our recent standards, but at least they are within touching distance of the fourth spot with two-thirds of the campaign still to go. If the goalkeeper was a just an average standard, the Reds could easily have conceded more and found themselves even further adrift.

Liverpool have shipped 17 goals in 14 league games at a rate of 1.23 per game. Since Alisson arrived in 2018, the goal concession rate has never been higher. The caveat is that there are still 24 games left this season to push that rate down. As per various statistical websites, the Brazil international has saved the Reds from conceding seven more goals this campaign. Generally, after 13-14 games, keepers prevent 3-5 goals, but seven is on a different planet. More of that will be discussed below.
