It’s 1st v 2nd at Anfield on Saturday with Mikel Arteta’s league leaders the next visitors to Anfield in the final Premier League match before Christmas for the Reds.
Aston Villa will go top if they beat Sheffield Utd a day earlier but as nice as it is to be top of the table at Christmas, it offers no guarantees of finishing the season in the same position. Out of interest, Liverpool have been top at Christmas 20 times overall - more than any other side - with Arsenal nine times. In the Premier League era, Liverpool have been top at Christmas six times and went on to win the league once (2019/2020), Arsenal have been top three times and never went on to win the title.
