Arsenal Are Very Good; But Not As Good As Liverpool
Liverpool's underlying numbers are significantly better
Arsenal went into this season more fancied than Liverpool, but find themselves six points behind, having played a game more.
Their underlying numbers are improving, but mostly in games where you’d expect them to.
Against the better teams they’ve struggled to dominate the underlying numbers, and to win the actual games. They have a hellishly intense January ahead of them.
But unlike Chelsea, who I wrote off several weeks ago because of their poor underlying numbers, before they fell away badly, the Gunners have steel, resolve and experience of title races; albeit so far, finishing 2nd and not yet reaching 90 points. It’s all good experience to go to the next level, but they find themselves a reasonable way back.
They have underlying numbers that suggest a title challenge is possible, but the Reds’ numbers are significantly better.
