Bologna (Anfield) - Match Preview. Pre & Post Match Discussion Thread (Oct 2)
Liverpool and Bologna face off for the first ever time when the Italian side runs out at Anfield on Wednesday evening, for Matchday two of the Champions League league phase
Match Preview and Metrics
Bologna - the 5th best side in Italy last season - are Liverpool’s next opponents in the Champions League and it will be the first ever competitive match between these two sides.
If someone had to come up with the most Italian name imaginable, surely Bologna head coach Vincenzo Italiano would take some beating! Italianzo Italiano maybe? The former Fiorentina head coach replaced Thiago Motta in the summer, with the latter leading I Rossoblù to Champions League qualification for the first time in their history before leaving to join Juventus.
(Note: Bologna did take part in the 1964/65 European Cup preliminary round where they lost against Anderlecht so this is the first time they’ve competed in Europe’s elite competition beyond the preliminary stage)
