Liverpool and Chelsea meet for the first time since the FA Cup final in May, with both sides struggling this season for different reasons, as they look up at the likes of Brentford, Brighton and Fulham in the league table.
The Reds recorded a domestic cup double at the expense of the Blues last season -winning both finals via a penalty shootout - and the last five meetings in all competitions have been similarly tight affairs, with both league games last season ending in draws (1-1 at Anfield, 2-2 at Stamford Bridge). Chelsea also won 1-0 at Anfield during the 2020/21 season, making it five games since Liverpool last defeated Chelsea within 90 minutes.
