A few thoughts on Reds vs Toulouse
When at home in a minor competition to an opponent (and fans) who see it as their cup final, it can often feel like there's often little to gain (no puns about what’s to lose).
But sometimes the 'B' team, with a few kids and a few A-list stars stepping in, can provide a wonderful occasion, if an unfamiliar XI that has almost certainly never played together clicks (and in this case, with full debuts, being a brand new XI was never more true).
Toulouse are a good team: a motivated mid-table French side with cup-winning pedigree and Damien Comolli signing players.
But Liverpool's new signings and youngsters were the stars of the show, with no fewer than eight Academy prospects on the pitch at various times, along with some cheap-as-chips bargains, and two summer recruits.
