The disappointing result at Nottingham Forest was swiftly erased with the thoroughly deserved 2-0 win at Brentford, which - along with Arsenal’s 2-2 draw at home with Aston Villa - resulted in Liverpool opening up a six point gap to the Gunners, with the Reds having played one game less.

Next up is the visit of relegation threatened Ipswich Town on Saturday, a side Liverpool defeated 2-0 on the opening day of the season at Portman Road.
