Liverpool – A Ferrari About To Get A Whole New Engine
Midfield revamp will alter dynamics of entire team
The engine: a long-used metaphor for the midfield of a team.
Right now, Liverpool are like a Ferrari that's been running on an ageing Volkswagen Beetle block.
It's painful, but we just need to accept that what the club has right now is what it has, and get through to the summer, if we want to see the team at its very best, which will now likely be next season.
(This season is not over, and these three games in eight days were always going to be about as tough as it gets – before it gets easier on paper. It's not a good idea to catastrophise about Top Four or No Top Four, as the club won’t end due to the latter.)
The Reds are a Ferrari hindered by a hatchback midfield, that has been undermined with injuries, fatigue, and which was lacking some key qualities to start with, but where the unexpected collapse in form of Fabinho exacerbated everything.
