Post-Match Thoughts

Paul Tomkins
An hour before kickoff, and it’s the twin adrenaline shots of 0-0 at Goodison and the Reds’ lineup.
Then, 4pm: I cheer at the result – two dropped points by Chelsea, at a team near the foot of the table.
Interestingly, Chelsea shaded the xG, but by the fairly low margin they’ve been averaging all season, which has seen me discount them (albeit they were winning games, and that cannot be ignored).
How would Liverpool do on the xG count? Maintain the more impressive numbers?
It was a great opportunity for the Reds, but a game where, if you face Spurs, you can have trouble; if you face Spursy, you’ll be okay.
In the end, Liverpool faced Spursy for about 70 minutes, then Spurs for about 10 minutes, before Spursy returned. So, just a casual 6-3 away win, then.
In making them more exciting, Ange Postecoglou has somehow made them even more extreme in their range from excellent to awful. (But yes, I would watch them as a neutral.)
