Mo Salah (and Virgil van Dijk?) Staying Two More Years
Winger has defied his age, to remain elite
If there’s any doubt that Mo Salah was good enough to remain at Liverpool, his numbers of 32 goals and 22 assists have him stand out as the league’s best player; 27 and 17 of them in the Premier League.
Logic says time will catch up with him, but just like a lot of defenders, it hasn’t done so yet.
I’ve been rereading my work from last summer, and been amazed at how well it stands up, given how much can go awry in football. But the one thing I got wrong was thinking Mo Salah was in decline.
I have also spent the season trying not to fixate on the Contract Trio, and whether they’ll stay or go; but Virgil van Dijk, said to also be close to signing a new two-year deal, has also proven he’s still elite, even if, like Salah, he’s had a couple of less-good games recently. (Which is not so bad when you’re 11 points clear.)
