New Book – How Jürgen Klopp Won Hearts, Minds and Trophies At Liverpool
The Klopp Quadrilogy – "Quadraphonic"
Mentality Monsters (2019) + Perched (2020) + This Red Planet (2022) + Klopp’s Last Waltz (2024)
‘Quadraphonic’ is a special hardback quadrilogy, featuring abridged versions of Paul Tomkins’ three previous books on the Jürgen Klopp era at Liverpool, with a new fourth volume, covering the final two years of the German’s remarkable reign. Combining the best of ‘Mentality Monsters’ (2019), ‘Perched’ (2020) and This Red Planet (2022), ‘Quadraphonic’ ends with ‘The Last Waltz’, which as well as completing the Klopp-at-Liverpool story, also looks at how his replacement Arne Slot might take things forward.
This is a special edition hardback-only quadrilogy, printed and available only via Amazon’s on-demand hardback service.
The price is £29.99, as the printing cost per copy is c.£10 (due to being 550 pages and a hardback), and Amazon then take 60% of the remaining ‘profit’, meaning just over £8 to me per sale.
Thanks to Daniel Marshall for his design, and it’s just a shame we couldn’t use the original cover for licensing reasons, as it was stunning. (If we later get permission I’ll change it to that cover, so these first ones would become rarer!)
One bonus is that the Amazon hardbacks are of super-high quality, as seen with my novel London Skies. (More on which can be seen on Goodreads.)
I may make an ebook version available at some later date, as I was expecting to charge less than £29.99 for the hardback, but I’ll see what the feedback is.
Equally, I would like to have sold signed copies as with all my previous books, but they were all traditionally printed (in bulk). Also, I got sick of copies going missing in the post as I sent them all over the world, including entire batches. Plus, it was a lot of work, signing, packaging and posting, usually after a gruelling season when I needed to unwind and focus on my health.
And when printing in bulk in advance, if the book doesn’t sell, you lose money.
As three quarters of the book is available already via the three previous releases, I’m not really sure of the demand for this, but I wanted to tie a neat bow on the Klopp era with a book that sums up the final two years, and also looks forward to what Arne Slot has to work with, and what he should bring to the party. Hopefully a few of you will buy it!
