It may surprise you to read this but Tuesday’s match will be the first official competitive match between the two clubs, with all previous games - of which there have been ten - being friendlies. The last of which took place in October 2011 at Ibrox which Rangers won 1-0.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst replaced Steven Gerrard in November 2021, when the Reds legend departed to take over at Aston Villa. van Bronckhorst led Rangers to the Europa League final last season - where they lost to Eintracht Frankfurt 5-4 on penalties - aswell as finishing runners up to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and leading Rangers to a Scottish Cup victory against Hearts.
