Post-Match Thoughts
Paul Tomkins
Have a crack, that's what I say. To be honest, it proved a bit of a bum game, but you'd have to be an arsehole – or perhaps anally retentive – to be unhappy with a 2-0 away win.
All Sheffield United offered was a rearguard action, with almost no attacking play. As such, a 2-0 win felt appropriate against the team who sit bottom.
Suddenly Liverpool have the best defence and the best goal difference in the Premier League, having played harder games (mostly away) than any of the Big Six or Newcastle.
To make matters even sweeter, Aston Villa had all 18 of the final 18 shots in the game against Man City, with one of them deflecting in.
It proved to be three nervy halves of football for me, switching from two scrappy 1-0 'half' wins for the Reds to seeing if Villa could hold out for their 1-0. This is not a normal season: it's official.
