The King Is Gone. Long Live the King
We must live in the moment, and the fans showed their true appreciation for the man – a genuine living legend – who left our club this past weekend. (No, not Nat Phillips, albeit he was great fun in 2021 and massively exceeded expectations.)
The King is Kenny’s nickname, of course, but the phrase ‘the King is dead, long live the King’ is what I want to get at: you also have to look forward.
The past is done; now you quickly move on and, as Jürgen Klopp himself said, “The new manager, I want you to sing his name – Arne Slot, na na na na na! When the next season starts, go full throttle into it with the new manager. When you start, you keep believing, don’t stop believing.”
He also tried to say that Liverpool has never been in a stronger position, before checking, somewhat sheepishly, with the eternal King on the raised podium on the Anfield centre circle; but Klopp is probably right, thanks to his work, and that of the owners, and those key men the owners who have employed, and now re-employed, to oversee the rebuild, behind the scenes and on the training ground.
