We had Jürgen Klopp.
For a week or so, we still have Jürgen Klopp.
But we had Jürgen Klopp; meaning that, in some way, we will always have Jürgen Klopp.
In the King Harry pub last month I saw the quote on the wall from Johan Cruyff, about no other club having an anthem like ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
Even if was never sung again, it occurred to me that Liverpool had ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
Liverpool had Istanbul. And of course, we still have Istanbul; just as Bogart and Bergman will always have Paris.
Everton had Carlo Ancelotti. Chelsea had Fernando Torres. Barcelona had Philippe Coutinho. Juventus had Ian Rush. Spurs had Antonio Conte. Man United had Jose Mourinho. Man United then got back Cristiano Ronaldo. PSG had Lionel Messi. Al-Ahli have Roberto Firmino. And so on.
Ultimately, all these relationships and team-ups meant little. On paper they may have seemed like brilliant ideas, or at the very least, convenient and mutually beneficial pairings. Many actually ended in silverware, but mostly little of lasting meaning.
