Why Alexander Isak (Or Certain Other no.9s) Would Make Liverpool Better

In the last week or so, we’ve seen various Newcastle players linked with Liverpool and various Liverpool players linked with Newcastle; as if the shirt-swapping at Wembley went wrong. (Or right.)

Isak may have outgrown Newcastle; and unless they finish in the top five, they may lose some key players, along with a need to sell to stick within FFP/PSR rules.

For those ‘neutrals’ gloating that some Liverpool players may be leaving, the Reds are on course to win the title without a regular reliable centre-forward, and with a fading left-back, and nearly 20 players in the squad who haven’t reached peak age yet. In theory, putting a truly elite centre-forward into the mix would clearly improve the team, as will one or two other signings, and as will all the players aged 25 or below maturing (along with more time spent together as a team, and perfecting the Arne Slot approach).

While I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself and thus fail to drink in the title run-in, it’s the time when rumours start to get stronger. And with no game until Wednesday, I thought I’d have a look at this issue in more depth.

Alexander Isak – or could that be Alexander-Isak? – is a gem of a footballer; a graceful glider, and ruthless finisher. He’d look good in any team, and for me, he’d be an upgrade at Liverpool, albeit the rumoured fees seem a little eye-watering.

There’s also a couple of other slightly less-heralded, younger strikers I’ve taken a big liking to, and they are worth a look too, in terms of data, along with Isak and Liverpool’s current no.9s.
