On Tuesday 28th December, Liverpool – playing really poorly – lost 1-0 at Leicester, and to me, the title felt “gone”. (Note: TTT Subscribers can debate this article on the main site. Now, nothing in football is ever over until it’s over, but I felt – with some justification – that Man City were not normal league leaders from an era when you could claw back leads, as several recent titles (including Liverpool’s) have often been won with totals 97 or more points. Were it the days of 79-point champions and nip-and-tuck races, it would have felt different.
